Asbri Glamorgan County Order of Merit 2023
The 2023 Glamorgan County Order of Merit comprises of five Welsh events and five County events.
[table “500” not found /]These events are played on courses across the County, from May through to September.
Overall, the Order of Merit will produce a winner who has played the most consistent golf over the season. Once the standings have concluded, it will form the qualification process for the President’s Cup, where the top 16 players play off in a Matchplay format over two consecutive days.
The Duncan Putter
The Duncan Putter is the opening event of the Calendar year but the second to accumulate points on the Order of Merit. Competitors come from our county, across Wales, the UK and from Europe. The Duncan Putter is played across the wonderful Southerndown Golf Club over 72 Holes.
The Neath Bell
The 1st of the previous original events of the calendar year within Glamorgan county always provides a strong field of entrants on a golf course that is always in great shape to provide a stern test to the competitors.
The Radyr HS Colt Cup
The next event take place in the nation’s capital at Radyr Golf Club. Renowned for its fantastic greens and overall condition the Harry Colt design course is always a favourite with all the entrants.
The County Championship
The Flagship event of the Golfing Calendar in Glamorgan is played on one of our Championship courses, attracting a large field and so carries more Order of Merit points.
Year on year the county championship proves a stern test and who ever walks away with the trophy will have played some excellent golf over 36 holes. This year it will be played at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club celebrating their centenary year in 2022.
W I Tucker Trophy
A further Wales Golf Event held over 72 Holes. This event is played on the superb parkland courses of Whitchurch GC and Newport GC. These courses are always in excellent condition for this event and scoring is sure to be very low if you want to pick up points here.
The Valleys Cup
The Valleys Cup is now in its 3rd year. The Events the Morlais & Mountains Bowls have been amalgamated into one event with 18 Holes played at each venue on consecutive days. The Prize and OOM points will be awarded for the lowest aggregated score over the 2 days.
Welsh Amateur Championship
The Championship shall be decided by both stroke play and match play. 18 holes of stroke play on day one and day two followed by match play stages on days three, four and five.
The 32 players returning the lowest gross scores over the 36 holes stroke play stage will qualify for the match play stage of the Championship. Ties in the stroke play qualifying will be decided by a card countback, except for ties for the final qualifying place(s) which will be decided by a hole by hole sudden death play-off; see specific conditions for full details.
The match play stage will be conducted by automatic draw based on the qualifying position of each competitor; 1 will play 32 at the top of the draw and 2 will play 31 in the opposite half of the draw etc.
Each match shall consist of one round of 18 holes, except that the final will be played over 36 holes. In the event of a match being all square after 18 holes, or 36 in respect of the final, competitors shall continue to play until one shall gain a hole, then the match shall be considered won. A maximum of 144 competitors shall play in the Championship, held at Newport Golf Club in 2020.
Welsh Open Strokeplay
The Championship shall be open to male amateur golfers of all nationalities. It shall be played over 72 holes. 18 holes on day one and day two, the top 45 and ties will play 36 holes on day three.
The Winner shall be the competitor who returns the lowest score over the 72 holes. In the event of a tie, there will be a hole by hole play-off over holes to be decided by the Championship Committee.
A maximum of 156 competitors shall play in the Championship, held the wonderful Machynys Golf Club
The Trubshaw Cup
The Order of Merit moves on to its third spot and a further event of 72 Holes around the Classic Links of Ashburnham and Tenby. This again is an event that has both County & National players taking part.
Glamorganshire Baffie
In what used to be the first event in the Calendar a visit to the Glamorganshire Golf Club. This will now be the last of the OOM games prior to the Presidents Cup Final which will be played in October. . A fantastic layout, with challenges for all players, and a wonderful putting surface.
