Ian Hughes

We were sad to learn of the passing of Ian Hughes. A long serving member of Royal Porthcawl and Radyr Golf Clubs.

Ian served as an executive member of the Welsh Golfing Union, representing the Union on the national CONGU committee and refereeing at local and national events. He served as President of the Union with distinction.

For many years Ian represented the Championship clubs on the Glamorgan County Executive, and was ever present at our quarterly meetings for many years. Often seen at both Men’s and Senior championship events, his shrewd advice was appreciated on both selection and operational matters.

Ill health and mobility issues have kept him away in recent times, but his knowledge and wise counsel was often presented by his good friend Peter Austerberry.

Our condolences to his family, and many friends at this and time.
